First Day Off

I was invited to eat dinner with Ben's family last Saturday evening. I had the pleasure of meeting an Aunt and nephew from San Francisco. It was my first time eating at this much talked about restaurant, Confucius Seafood Restaurant. Every plate that went out was absolutely delicious, even the gai lan! I was accustomed to just steamed gai lan with a side of oyster sauce, but whatever they did to these gai lan vegetables required no sauce! I would have happily gobbled up the plate in front of the others but I managed to hold myself in check. Adding Ben's other aunt and brother made us an impressive party of 6. It was great seeing them again. I'm really starting to miss these folks!

I was definitely full after the meal but when plans were made to stop at the nearby tapioca place, I just had to agree. My absolute favorite, Taro Coconut, along with baby tapioca! Ben's family was nice enough to humor my tendency to take photos of everything we ate/drank.

I bid them farewell the same night. After happily accepting the offer to come see them in San Francisco one day, I counted it a dinner well-spent. The next day was also a big affair because it was Ben's official first day off for his clerkship. His first rotation is in cardiology (and he does have on-call) so I'm happy he at least has a day off. Ben offered to make lunch for this Sunday date but I helped when I could! We made the best frito pies in the world!

We headed out to downtown Galveston because I love walking around places. I treated Ben to pistachio ice cream and he indulged me in our jaunty stroll through the streets. I mentioned in a past post that Ben acquired three new pairs of Clarks shoes. I picked out the last two pairs (the first pair was a dressy type shoe for his clerkship) for his days off. Glad he took them out for a spin! Anyway, I'm happy his first rotation affords him days off. I hope there will be more of these in the future!
