Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

I'm writing this post while feeling a little under the weather. Ben thinks we caught some bug from a boy that sneezed near us at a Japanese convenience store. Whether that's true or not, both of us are feeling less than our normal selves. It's doubly worse for Ben because he still has to wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning and stay on his feet until well into the evening. Hopefully our immune systems will kick in and we won't have to feel tired for too long! This past weekend was pretty exciting because it was the first time we had ever been to a baseball game (can check this off my list!). It's also my first time at Minute Maid Park! We were a bit spoiled with this experience because 1) ballpark had a roof so no sweating 2) all-you-can-eat voucher at one of the food booths 3) awesome seats at the mezzanine!

Thanks to Ben's school, he was able to purchase these tickets at 50% off! Part of the tickets were ripped off to be exchanged for red wristbands that let us get unlimited food items. Of course it wasn't fine dining, but I doubt either of us cared with unlimited nachos, hot dogs, popcorn, and peanuts! And of course unlimited refills on drinks. If I had been shot with a tranquilizer dart, it would only bring me down a little because I was especially giddy just sitting down in the stands scarfing down nachos.

We did our soon-to-be-traditional cupcake run at Craves (one pistachio and one strawberry cupcake) after the game and decided to have a quick dinner near Chinatown. Ben humored me by taking me to a nearby Japanese convenience store where I picked up an interesting product from TonyMoly called the Egg Pore Blackhead Out Oil Gel. I tried it out last night but it's still too soon to say how effective it was. I also grabbed a silicon cleansing pad to help with my normal cleansing routine. Can't resist trying out Asian beauty products I guess...

The other week I wore a maxi dress when I visited Ben. It reminds me of the long skirts and dresses I used to wear in high school. Ben pointed out that I'm more comfortable baring my shoulders and I think he's right. I always felt a little exposed when I did that, as if shoulders were too sensuous. I'm still a little hesitant with strapless tops but having long hair seems to take some of the attention off of it (not that anyone really ogles girls' shoulders, right?)

These days I've been looking over some books, playing guild wars, and living vicariously through friends who tell me about their much more busy lives. It's still only August, perhaps too early to hear back from schools? One of the PA schools did email me to say that my application had been forwarded for faculty review, the pool where they grab applicants to be interviewed. Reading the words 'congratulations for getting to this step' was heartening, so hopefully that's followed up with an actual interview? I'm definitely still on edge, half frightened, half hopeful. I'm told to take it a day at a time, so it's a daily mental battle where I tell myself to focus on a positive outcome. Need to keep moving forward!
