Semi-Long Post Part I: Dates and Gifts
Thursday, February 07, 2013I've been itching to write in here for the longest time but had to keep putting it off so I could deal with some tests. Today marks the three year anniversary for Ben and I. This post was supposed to be really long but I decided to split it up into several parts. So the anniversary-giddy talk will be shelved for later posts!
Anyway, I try to take lots of pictures for the times Ben and I go out. We try to visit each other once a week, but sometimes those visits comprise hours in the library or study room. I'm not begrudging those times since they're important too (at least we get to spend time together!) but the result is that I take copious amounts of photos—even for the 5 minute trips to Jamba Juice or Starbucks. This way, it seems like we still manage to have fun even though there's nothing more special to it than that. Ben had a craving for schnitzel last month so we tried out this German place, Rudi Lechners, he found on the Internet. Between the two of us, I still preferred the one in Bryan but I'm holding out on the hope that there's better German food out there—we just haven't found it.
It was a lucky day at that restaurant because they had live music playing in the background. We tried a German beer, mistakenly ordering the light version instead of the dark. It was not appealing to the tastebuds, for sure. But at least our waitress had a German accent! At least, we hoped it was a legitimate accent and not some gimmick to make the place seem like an authentic German restaurant.
We had also had an adventure at The Galleria which I'm referring to as a date because of all the photos I took. It's so far from my house but I kind of like having to drive out to get there. It's almost like a road trip? (The admission probably makes it seem as if I hardly get out. Somewhat true!) We stopped by a couple of stores, one of which I walked out with a new pair of suede loafers (photo in later posts). I mention this towards the end of the post but the shirt Ben's wearing is one of the two oxfords I got for his anniversary gift!

Being in the Galleria was a pretty good excuse to stop by Crave Cupcakes. We boxed up three cupcakes (Nutella, Chocolate Coconut, and Hazelnut) to go for a late lunch. I've been telling Ben that I really want to try eating tteokbokki. An old friend from college, Han, made that for me when we were hanging out at her apartment. I found a place in Chinatown that sold both the regular tteokbokki and the royal version. I ordered the regular (spicy but good!) and Ben ordered the bbq (even better!). I want to go back there again and try other things on their menu!

I mentioned before that February was a pretty big month for us. Not only does this month get kick-started with Ben's birthday, but it has our anniversary, Valentine's Day, and my birthday rolled into it too. Because of exams and study plans, we have to push back celebrations to the end of February and a little in March. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed, but in the long run, it will save us stress from school. We already exchanged gifts for our anniversary. Since we both have been working on improving our closets, we gifted each other with wardrobe related things. I packed Ben a doozy because of all the spoiling he's been doing on me when we go out to the mall.
