Break is Almost Over!
Friday, January 06, 2012I met up with Stephanie a couple of days and it was a wonderful time! So much catching up was accomplished as well as buying lovely little bracelets to reaffirm our friendship. I couldn't make it to the get together today since I flew out yesterday. It was an interesting experience because I'm used to just arriving at the airport, going through security, boarding the plane, and taking off almost immediately.
This time, there was an apparent problem with the wing flap that actually required someone on the maintenance team to call for a part replacement. I can't believe they let us fly off after that...? Anyway, it didn't take as long as they projected (original flight should leave at 3 PM but they projected 4:15 instead) but due to some passengers getting off the plane to stretch their legs...! They did a head count at least four times but they kept coming up short of the passenger list so the captain resorted to roll call! It was beyond humorous, especially when everyone seemed to have a good sense of humor about it.
It only took one remark for someone to say that it seemed we were all back in school before it became a running joke that the stewardesses took up the entire flight. Random yells of 'Present!' during the roll call, as well as the stewardess referring to us as 'Class,' it was at least an enjoyable flight. It would've been nice to receive something complimentary, but I suppose the delay wasn't that big of a deal. I was half-tempted to leave the airplane myself to see if I could hunt down a warm cinnabon but I didn't want my seat to be taken. I didn't know if I would like the no-seating-arrangement policy but after some thought, it works pretty well. Everyone just sits where there is a spot and I feel like maybe it's cut down on some time.
I wonder how quick/slow this semester will pass? My mood has certainly taken a different turn since the beginning of this program. Considering the possibility that it may not turn out as I had hoped still stings, but I know that at this point, everyone is still supporting me. There's no time to feel too bad about it because I need to prepare for all possibilities. I wish I could jump into the future to see how everything turns out. Do I come out relatively unscathed? If this doesn't work, do I at least find something I love? Am I satisfied with where I am or did I just go to where practicality dictates I must? And if the latter became reality, is there at least a possibility for me to change?
There are a lot of questions but no way to really have an answer to them. On another note, I saw 'Never Let Me Go' the other night. It's based a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro with a little embellishments here and there, and the ending was (if not more) as heartbreaking as the book. Each of the main characters start off as hopeful children and in the end they all seem to become husks of the persons they once were. What identity or distinct personality they had in the beginning meant nothing. The 'Completion' (dying after the donations) meant nothing. It was a complete mood dampener. I probably would've liked talking about it afterward but by then, there was no time to really get a good discussion going.
While I do enjoy watching movies of this nature, I think I'm in a need of several feel-good movies.
