Celebrating a Dear Friend's Birthday
Tuesday, February 15, 2011Even though I only had one class today, it was BUSY. I presented today about the 'Death of a Child' and had to dress business casual for it. It went well and our professor even returned old assignments. It was really fun describing the class to my friends because Eddie and I were locked in a mini battle about which reflection received the better comment. I won by adding that she thanked me for writing it haha
I stopped by lab to see if I could find some mutated C. elegans (I know it's especially ridiculous since it was such a beautiful day today and I chose to sneak away into a lab to look at nematodes!) and managed to pick up two new recommendation letters for UNT. I only managed to take a shower before I needed to make it to a post-CNY meeting that finally dispelled a month's worth of tension between us (ASA officers in CNY committee) and BAC students. It started at 3:30 and ended around 5! As we were walking out of the SUB, I grabbed Connie and told her that we should go out and get something to eat to celebrate her birthday (i.e., nicely kidnapping a willing victim!). I suggested Cafe Cappuccino but it was closed. Eddie suggested World Cup Cafe but it was closed. We ended up walking across the street to D's Mediterranean Grill. Since I forgot my wallet, Eddie offered to pay for mine and Connie's meal.

It was a lucky break for him because he didn't want to pay for dinner this Friday (my birthday and joint birthday celebration with Connie) at the expensive restaurant we're planning on going to! I'll have to rope him into paying for dessert! Anyway, I ordered a shawarma sandwich and Connie ordered a falafel sandwich. Our sandwiches came with fries and a drink. Pretty tasty! It was the only meal I had today... I should really make sure I eat more regularly. Last time I checked my weight = 118 lbs.
Anyway, I remembered to register for Goodphil despite not having my debit card. Did I mention there was some attempt at identity theft? Luckily Chase noticed the strange activity and shutdown my account before money could be withdrawn. The only hassle is not having a debit card with me. I've been patiently waiting for a new card but they mentioned it would take several days! Speaking of several days, my papers should be arriving at UNT sometime at the end of this week. The people mentioned attended a conference so they wouldn't be getting a look at it until later. I hope all goes well!
Earlier in the year, I applied to Teachers for America on a whim and wrote out a letter of intent and submitted a barely updated resume. Today, I checked my email and I was invited for a phone interview. It's exciting but I also had no idea it was even possible. While it would help pay my school loans, it's a two-year commitment! I would at least get a teacher certification at the end of it so there's a practical result. However, I've been warming up to the idea of maybe getting into UNT. I don't know what this means for me but I've already gone ahead and chosen an interview slot. I hope it goes well?
Seems like new things are developing in my life. As cliché as it sounds, I feel a change in the winds. I don't know yet if it's good or bad, but I will hope and pray for the best.
