Wisma Is Where the Heart Is

One of the new things I've been considering adding to my routine before rotations begin in a few months is instilling more... for lack of a better word, fun. While that doesn't include joining every nightly excursion into the city, I have set my sights on Wisma. Home. (Wisma is an Indonesian word meaning home; it's also the name of a eatery/locally sourced grocery store right next to the train station near my apartment.)

It was when I was sifting through their wine collection and dessert choices that I realized this was a place I could enjoy, relax in, and maybe take a couple of hours to consider things other than medicine. I finally took the plunge and decided to come here at least once a week to color, read, or even write. Asking a few of my colleagues to join was the right choice because it's been a long time since I've been able to sit down and have genuine conversations about politics, religion, and everything else under the sun. The near constant supply of wine nearby is also a benefit.

It may be premature to say how I would like to make this a tradition, but what's wrong with setting your sights high? I hope I can keep this going for the next 80 days before the big move to the city. I think I might actually need this kind of getaway because this last quarter feels like the Great Flood come to sweep me away. Just got to hold on until rotations—and who knows how that's going to go.

My outlook for the moment is optimistic. I still remember what I anticipated for the new year and it's still the same. Let it come, let it come. I will meet it or I will bow before it, but somehow, I will get through it.

Now, all I need to do is muster the same resolve with the pediatric exams I'll be doing tomorrow morning. Cheers.
