Calm in the Storm

I have been meaning to write in here since I started school but, as is the common excuse, I've been busy. I volunteered at a non-profit organization a few hours ago to hand-package formulated meals for malnourished children around the world. It's humbling and it was a small way to give back. It put me in an introspective mood and somehow, I was able to pull this up to jot down some thoughts.

School is great. I'm performing well and I've made great, life-long friends. I've tried picking up more responsibilities while staying abreast of the material we have to cover. Surprisingly, there's a lot to recap since I moved to Chicago just over three months ago.

Strong summer quarter! My peers awarded me the Student Leadership Award for the program. Guess those daily anatomy quiz questions helped sway some people. It was a lovely surprise and naturally, I was extremely embarrassed and awkward upon receiving it in front of the class. But I survived it.

Right now, I'm wading through fall quarter. I recently interviewed for a panel board member position for the student-run interprofessional clinic near the school. There were a lot of interviewees so looks like a lot of people to pick from. Fingers crossed!

I have exams every week—actually two this week—so the onslaught of material is never-ending. By Tuesday I will have a decent mastery of EKG... somehow. I finished my units in Dermatology and Neurology. Exam-wise, I'm doing really well. I tried to study to remember, and not to just answer the exam questions. I suppose the true test will be when I start clinical rotations next year. What is interesting to note was I rather enjoyed the material on dermatology. Possible career choice?

Presently, I'm learning about psychiatry. Too soon to give my impressions but maybe I can answer my interest level question by next week.

I jumped around a lot in this post. Need to work out the kinks in not having written in here for awhile. Until next time!
