Houseplants
Friday, February 20, 2015I've never been much of a green thumb. This wouldn't be such a big deal if my parents weren't such HUGE green thumbs. Everything blooms and thrives underneath their caring hands. Growing up, I've eaten plenty of vegetables and fruits that were home-grown. Sometimes I would wake up in the morning to find fresh flowers in a vase on the breakfast table. They were just that good; the backyard is their playground. Mine, not so much. I have accepted this fact and moved on but now I'm revisiting some old sites for inspiration on plants you can place in your apartment that won't easily die off (unless you're trying to kill them).
Some of the suggested plants include: Garden Mums, Spider Plants, Dracaena, Peace Lilies, Boston Ferns, Snake Plants, Bamboo palms, and Aloe Vera. I think I'll be purchasing at least two-three of these to brighten up my place.

I think my main desire for these plants also involves their air-purifying abilities. Carpeted apartments are a dime a dozen, and all three apartments that I've wait listed in Chicago have wall-to-wall carpets. My nose is particularly sensitive to dust and particulates so I can still have sneezing fits two days after vacuuming. Since I can't avoid the carpets, I hope the plants can help in a little way. Also, I hope to make great use of rugs to not only inject some color, but maybe keep the fluff to a minimum. Just need to make sure not to make any tripping hazards, eh?

I'm looking forward to writing about the big move to a new city. The large furniture will either need to be carried there or purchased. I do have a day bed that I used in Ft. Worth but I think I could appreciate a larger bed to roll in after a long day. Hopefully I'll have the necessary funds to get one sooner than later. Until then, I'll be posting more 'style' posts to figure out a game plan.
