More ✈ Plans!
Friday, June 27, 2014I received my third interview invite in the email two days ago! It's going to be in August! It's also in a different state. I'll be visiting three different states for the first time in the next two months. I'm super excited (and also quaking in my boots!) Plane tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, the whole thing is going to cost quite the pretty penny but I am jumping for joy pretty much all the time that I am awake. Yup.
I said farewell to one of the scribes, Corey, who is leaving the job for good tomorrow night. He's going to start medical school in mid-August so he's going to enjoy some well-deserved vacation time before the big grind begins. I had already bid farewell not too long ago to the chief scribe who had to fly all the way to North Carolina for school and her husband. One of the last things she said was that she found farewells a little sad. They're sad, aren't they? I reminded Corey to let Danny (the new chief scribe) know when he's in town so that we can all meet up at Board Game Island. It would be nice if he does but I understand if that plan never comes to be. It's just part of life, isn't it?
One of my favorite doctors brought up my impending interviews and by relation (fingers crossed!), my impending departure for when school starts. She remarked about how bittersweet it was because the physicians get really close with the scribes but we tend to leave after a year. It feels nice to know we'll be missed. It feels even better to know that they regard our success as inevitable. Work has been long and hard but I still shake my head with wonder at how much I have gained in such a short amount of time. I guess when the hours seem to drag during my shifts, I should focus on how short-lived some experiences turn out to be. Especially given the fact that I work in the ED and can see how quickly codes can deteriorate. I am thankful.
So I've been looking over interview questions any chance I get. It's supposed to help prepare me for those tough questions but I also don't want to run the risk of sounding rehearsed. Why do I want to be a PA? How do I know this is for me? What's so great about me? I hope I can convey my determination and my desire to get into this profession. I hope they like... me.
My mind hasn't processed what the future could mean if I were to call a new state home. I don't even know if I would be able to get my beloved mini cooper over to my new place. It's all very—new. The idea of starting on a clean slate in a new city, a new state, sounds kind of romantic, doesn't it? It was definitely the sort of daydream I would find myself having when I was in college. I don't think I could have ever foreseen the way things are now. I'm sure I can find those posts talking about asking my future self how the future was. Where I was. Where everyone was. And if I was happy.
I guess I know the answer to that now.
Happy.
