1 Year and 8 Months
Tuesday, October 11, 2011I'm a day or two late on posting this but once classes start, it becomes a matter of squeezing out the time wherever I can. We were lucky this time and managed to meet up in Bryan. The drive took about the same (my drive is longer by 15 minutes) for the both of us, so it meant we could see each other sooner rather than later. We've been pretty lucky so far with these visits; we had no idea there was a festival going on at the same night. A semi-formal dinner at the German pub, Murphy's Law was fantastic. The place was so crowded! With its "seat yourself" policy, I was worried it would take hours for any waitress to notice us sitting at a table.
Ben's had his eye on ordering the same dish I ordered last time, so it was up to me to pick something different. I wasn't being too adventurous since I stuck with something that included both the breaded schnitzel and the spaetzle! I bit off more than I could chew by ordering an appetizer (Bavarian Sampler) which was way too much. Ben bought me a drink, Murphy's Excel, a combination of raspberry and vodka. We walked around the festival, enjoying the live music and the smell of all the yummy vendor food laid out. I spied some deep-fried oreos and funnel cake, but I only bought the both of us some cotton candy to share. It turned out to be a really fun night.
I presented my gift to him the same night. I had been wondering what to make him, I knew I wanted to make him something sweet (along with chocolate-covered pretzels I always get him) but didn't exactly have the time to go all out. I settled for red velvet cookies but this time with Ghirardelli white chocolate chips inside. I made pretty big cookies and zipped three to four in ziploc bags. I laid down some wax paper in a simple box and fit the cookies inside. I got red shredded paper and filled in any spaces.
Most importantly, I fit in 20 origami hearts (that I folded myself!) inside the box. I filled each heart with reasons I love him or favorite memories. It was a simple gift but I think he really liked it (he said so too haha). It would be nice to spend Halloween together but it may be a little difficult to get that together. I'll just keep my fingers crossed while trying to wade my way through all these exams and all the material I need to know!
