A Better Looking Update
Thursday, September 22, 2011Every day, classes start at 8 am. Depending on the particular day, I'm donning scrubs or a pair of comfy jeans. I sit through lectures until 5 in the afternoon or even 8:30 in the evening. The "social scene" is the farthest left table east side of the 2nd floor library, or if it's slim pickings for the tables, then it's one of a dozen tiny closed-door study rooms on the 4th floor. On the rarest of days, we may be able to spend a night out at a bar or maybe even a movie. But for the most part, days are quite literally spent bent over textbooks, notes, and cadavers.
My ideal thing to do after an especially tough day is indulged in freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and a vanilla-scented bubble bath.
Each day is an experience; I learn more about the human body through my lab times in anatomy. I'm in the middle of my preceptorship at a clinic, learning just as much about the drugs in the industry (usually learned at residency for medical students) as I do about the patients that come to see the physician. I've picked up a new hobby: ping pong. I think it's a valid claim as I even own my own ping pong paddle. I've got a pretty solid group of friends who share my aspirations, as well as my worries; we're good study buddies as well.
That hope to get accepted in medical school is still strong, though doubts manage to weasel their way into our optimism. I have my off days and pretty horrible days. I also have good days and amazing days. Just the other day, my car died in the middle of a steep sloping parking lot outside of my school. The only thing that prevented my car from quickly sliding down the parking lot and rear-ending the cars in my way was my hastily shift to park and emergency brakes. It was the worst timing because I had just came back from Moda salon for some nice pampering and only driven to school to print some case studies and then bam!
Also, I agreed to meet several friends at Baker's Pub & Grill for dinner and drinks but with AAA's claim to arrive in 45 minutes, I was disappointed to let them know I would be super late or not even make it at all. However, there was a nice surprise when all of them drove over to the parking lot and waited with me outside until the car came. I count myself lucky to have such nice friends! Ben has also been a great support; we're learning the same material (for anatomy) and our workload is pretty extensive. It's nice being able to share my worries and triumphs with him. Our monthly visits have also been one of the best ways to take a break from all the studying.
And as for the specific problem with a certain creeper guy...? He's managed to insinuate himself in some of the doubles games (even managed to make himself my partner!). I will grudgingly admit that he's not bad at ping pong, although I don't enjoy how he manages to invite himself over to lunch with myself and friends. Nor do I feel comfortable by being called adorable. Or getting texts about how I look so peppy when I walk around the library (especially when I don't see where you're texting from). I feel better knowing that my guy friends will put a stop to it if it becomes really troubling, so hopefully there won't be any future incidents from now on.
Now on a lighter note? I'm going to enjoy a nice, relaxing shower before jumping back into anatomy. Until next time!
